TED KHOURY

Salon Technologies International Inc was founded in 1998 by South African trained Pharmacist Ted Khoury, CEO, R.Ph, B.Pharm. Licensed in the United States and South Africa, Mr. Khoury has more than 3 decades of expertise in the personal care industry.

After completing high school in 1979 in Johannesburg, South Africa,  Mr. Khoury was accepted into pharmacy school at the University of Witswatesrand. 

After graduation, he earned a 1 year internship at a retail pharmacy where he gained valuable knowledge on the industry. 

From 1986-1988 he severed as a Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the South African Army. He was transferred to the Namibia-Angola border, at the time a war torn part of the world, to run the main hospital pharmacy. Mr. Khoury felt helpless at times when troops came back from long patrols seeking help for severe sunburns, blisters, psoriasis, cracked hands, elbows, and heels, as well as other severe dermatological problems associated with harsh environments.

Without the availability to prepare any suitable products, Mr. Khoury would improvise and use simple ingredients like petroleum jelly, olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, and castor oil, as well as any other basic ingredients he could get his hands on. 

Mr. Khoury arranged a special procurement requisition from the Major in charge and flew to the South African Defense Force headquarters in Pretoria to arrange for supplies in order to rectify the lack of inventory. Upon his return, he worked through the night to formulate some basic products, such as creams and moisturizers, for his fellow comrades. He became the “hero“ amongst his fellow soldiers.

In 1989, he founded Ted Khoury Laboratories, Pty, Ltd and within a short period of time the company was supplying directly to almost 1,200 pharmacies with approximately 60 products. The company became well known in the industry for its fragrance free, color free products, such as hand and body creams, and hypoallergenic bath oils.

By 1991, Mr. Khoury had grown a highly sought after business that was acquired by Femista Hair Cosmetics, a company for which he used to do contract packaging. Femista was building a new factory at the time and Mr. Khoury designed the entire manufacturing, warehousing areas and laboratory – in a brand new 40,000 sq. foot facility. 

He continued to develop new products, while managing the laboratory and a production staff of over 200 employees.  After 7 years with Femista, Mr. Khoury decided to re-locate to the United States with his family and settled in Orlando, Florida.

Since moving to Orlando, Mr. Khoury  has built a reputable and respected name in the industry, developing formulae and also supplying specialty ingredients to the personal care industry.
